2008

ECES video wins award
A video titled “The Undercutter Method for Winter Wheat” was recently given an “Award of Excellence” by The Undercutter Method for Winter Wheat DVDthe American Society of Agronomy.
The video was produced by Extension Conservation Tillage Specialist, Hans Kok, in cooperation with Darrell Kilgore, Video/Satellite Communication Specialist, in the Extension Communications and Educational Support Unit.
This 16-minute DVD describes the undercutter method, a cost and time-saving way of farming in the Pacific North-west summer fallow area. It contains research and farmer interviews explaining the advantages of the system.
The award was presented “in recognition of the development of outstanding agronomic educational material in the category of Audio-Visuals.

DVDThe recruiting DVD, "CAHNRS: A Closer Look Inside Our Minds", produced by our Video/Multimedia unit for CAHNRS, has been recognized with five awards in 2007, including a Platinum Award in the Hermes Creative competition,  a Silver Award from the Association for Communications Excellence in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Life and Human Sciences, a GOLD Award in the Horizon Interactive Awards competition, a Videographer Award of Excellence, and also won a prize in the Aegis awards competition.

Gerald Steffen

Hermes Creative Awards is an international competition for creative professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of traditional materials and programs, and emerging technologies. Entries come from corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, PR firms, design shops, production companies, Web-based innovators and freelancers.
Hermes Creative Awards is administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals. The international organization consists of several thousand marketing, communication, advertising, public relations, media production, Web and free-lance professionals. The Association oversees awards and recognition programs, provides judges and sets standards for excellence.

     
Stormwater Management from a Watershed Perspective: Extreme Western Climates received a Gold Hermes Creative Award and was a finalist for the Aegis Award.

ADEC Irving Award
Scott V. Fedale, chair of the Information Department, received the 2005 Irving Award at the annual meeting of the American Distance Education Consortium in New Orleans on April 27. The Irving Award is the organization's highest honor. The award is named for Irvin Omtvedt, ADEC's first board chair.
     

Extension DVD selected for national ag library
A DVD produced by the WSU Extension Information Department's Video Unit has been selected for inclusion in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Library. "Healing the Land Through Multi-Species Grazing" focuses on the use of grazing animals such as cattle, goats and sheep as tools in an integrated approach to the control of noxious weeds on rangelands in the western United States. In particular, it features the activities of a two-year regional project funded by USDA that took place in Washington, Idaho, Oregon and California.
